Hi all yes it's me again! Now I'm not sure if I should post this, but what the hell, the worst that can happern is that I'll be told to wind my neck in & this post be removed, hopefully not.

Anyway, a few years ago I was in formed by one of our members that when the brown smelly stuff was introduced to the portable ventelation equipment back in 1987-88, & many of us were sent to the Gulf to sweep the mines that Iran had sown, it was the largest operation of this kind since WW2, & that someone on the staff had requested that those who were involved be awarded the minesweeping medal. Unfortunately it was refused because there weren't enough people involved, so it wasn't worth the expence of striking the medal.

So I was wondering if any of our members who read this would be interested in trying get together, maybe at the reunion or someother time, to see if we could track down those affected by this incident, & try to get this medal awarded to us. Even if it means forming a pertition or something. I know that this maybe a tall order knowing how much apperthy there seems to be within the membership, but as our branch does have rather more than its fair share of MBE'S, OBE'S etc to my mind surely this can only strengthen this area of persuit?

Now before anyone gets all shouty, maybe it could be extended to other operations that our branch has partaken in & not received the recognition thats been due.

There I've said it. If I have got any info wrong or whatever, I would like to be corrected, but please no shouting & unpleasantness.

This is a thought that has bugged me for a very very very long time, just want to know what some of you think?

Dave
